Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (DFNL) was established by the Milk Scheme under the Natural Products Marketing Act. DFNL is the regulatory body which provides for the effective promotion, control and regulation of the production and marketing of milk within the Province, including the prohibition of the production and marketing of milk within the Province. DFNL has the authority to administer the Milk Scheme.
DFNL shall consist of not more than seven directors elected or appointed:
Of the six, two shall be elected from the East Dairy Zone, one shall be elected from the Central Dairy Zone, two shall be elected from the West Dairy Zone, and one shall be elected at large.
The appointed member to the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador should possess the following core competencies:
Members of the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador should be available to meet approximately nine times per year. Board members may also be expected to spend additional time to review materials and prepare for Board and Committee meetings.
Five directors of the DFNL shall be registered producers and they shall be elected by registered producers for a two year term. The minister may appoint one person as a director of the DFNL for a two year term. The chairperson and vice-chairperson shall be registered producers and shall be elected from and by the DFNL directors for two year terms.
